It's What I Do...

Finally, the temps got back above the 60's. Yes I know, my Yankee friends, that's not cold. Well it is for us natives of the Sunshine State! Although I love cold weather, it is a pain to suit up in layered clothes and throw on a bunch of leather to ride the motorcycle. Remember windchill? If it's only 50 degrees and your doing 70mph on the scooter...that's chilly!! Well, I broke out the ride and took off toward the beaches. I do some of my best thinking when I drive. So I was thinking...I have a very close and dear friend that has been a little sick. She was down in the dumps and I of course did what friends do and sent her a card. But then I thought, she likes sunsets. So I got to the beach and went to one of my favorite eateries called "The Hurricane". They have a roof top bar and some of the locals and lots of the tourist go there to watch the sunsets. Funny, they take pictures and then they all applaud when the sun sets...like it's not going to do that!! Anyway, I snapped a shot of ol' Sol myself. I just used a simple little Nikon Cool Pix L4. I took it home and added some photoshop text and sent it to her. I'm hoping it will cheer her up. I really like to use my photography to make people smile, because it's what I do. mws

JUST A QUICK SHOT

The past couple of weeks have been a blur. Not only was I involved with the Gasparilla activities I mentioned before, but then I had to plan for a huge fund raiser event. Each year the PGA Senior ProAm comes to the Tampa area. For the past eight years, I have had the parking detail for the event to raise money for my youth group. I had a great bunch of volunteers helping during the week while most of the kids were in school. Then the big week end came when we had thousands of spectators showing up as early as 6 AM. I was flagging the golf course volunteers into their parking "field" as early as 5 AM! Anyway, through the wind, the morning of freezing temps and the day of cold rain, we made it! Glad it's over.

Tonight I was driving home and I was on the phone with a good friend. As we talked I drove past the Florida State Fair Grounds and made a note of all the lights on the midway. By the time I got home and off the phone, I thought... this was the last night of the fair! I grabbed a camera and a tripod and off I went. Right across the interstate highway from the fair grounds is a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. I drove up to the top floor of the parking garage of the Hard Rock and banged off a few shots. The fair was coming to a close and some of the rides had already shut down. Also, I didn't have a 24mm lens which would have worked nicely. I made due and although this shot is not spectacular, It's still cool to me. There is another fair in March, the Plant City Strawberry Festival. Maybe I can get some better shots at that one. cya!
